Maternity Benefits in Health Insurance

Maternity Benefits in Health Insurance

Hello Everyone, Myself Mr. Dilbagh Singh, Manager of Chaitanya IVF.

Today I will tell you about the maternity benefits in an Insurance policy. You will be agreed with me, that from the very first month of pregnancy to delivery & post-delivery a pregnant woman needs so much care, for which the expenses can go in lacs. At this time, the medical benefits of the health insurance policy can be very helpful to you. If you have any health insurance policy (Individual or Family), then there is a possibility that these maternity benefits are included in it, if not, you can get it added to your policy by paying some extra premium as a rider. One important thing that is to be taken care of the most is, all the insurance policies that are available in the market, treats pregnancy as pre-existing conditions due to which all the maternity benefits are in existence after the waiting period of 3 to 5 years. That means if you buy a policy and add the maternity benefits to it & the policy goes on without any break for 3 to 5 years, only at that time maternity benefits will be helpful to you. But if you buy a policy after getting pregnant then, you are not eligible for maternity benefits. There are some Health insurance policies available in the market, which are exclusively for maternity. These have a higher premium rate compared to normal policy but it has a less waiting period of only 9 months to 2 years.

Now, I will tell you about the various maternity benefits which are available in a health insurance policy. Hospitalization expenses of 30 days before delivery and 60 days after delivery, Cesarean delivery expenses, and if there is a need for Medical termination of pregnancy a.k.a. Abortion is covered up in the maternity benefits of a policy. So many health insurance policies also cover up the expenses taken place in the first 90 days of a newborn baby and some are also started covering up the expenses of IVF (Test Tube Baby).
